You come to therapy to face hard truths in your life and learn better ways to handle them. Maybe you find yourself repeating the same patterns, having the same interactions, or feeling a certain way about yourself. I balance truth and tact, giving genuine feedback. I got my Masters in Social Work from Boston College in 1997 and have over 18 years of experience helping adults overcome depression, anxiety, and overall life stress. I say “overcome” because I strongly support the recovery model; I help people overcome challenges and not just manage them. I like to get to the root of issues and not just change behaviors but change how you see yourself. Who wants to just “manage” depression?? I love that light bulb moment when people see they can move from existing to living…and then thriving!
When appropriate, I use motivational and brief therapy to quickly help you change the way you think, act, and feel. I have extensive experience working with survivors of psychological trauma, including childhood sexual abuse. I also have a great deal of experience helping people overcome addictions and dual diagnoses, coexisting addictions and underlying mental health concerns. Having worked in medical settings for many years, I understands the connection between depression and anxiety and health issues. I have successfully helped people plagued by chronic pain through relaxation and addressing root stressors.
When appropriate, humor can be very helpful in easing anxiety and allowing us to face sometimes difficult subjects. I wrote a cartoon book for other social workers to help them see humor in situations and use humor to help others. I also give talks about this.

Throughout our life’s journey, we encounter a multitude of experiences. Some may contain extreme joy and happiness, while others can manifest feelings of doubt, sadness, anxiety or questioning if change or healing is possible in our current circumstances. During these difficult seasons we need the courage and perspective to explore challenging questions and the willingness to listen to the answers that emerge. My goal is to empower my clients and develop a rapport which promotes the confidence, skills and change agents needed to progress towards a direction that nourishes emotional and physical well-being.
Within my practice, you will find a safe, nonjudgmental environment that fosters a positive exploration of those tough questions. Together we will walk through the process of identifying personal barriers and developing the tools, communication skills, goals or boundaries needed to help you live a more meaningful and fulfilled life.
I have experience working among a diverse population. I frequently engage couples experiencing relationship difficulties, including intimacy issues, as well as, individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, or a loss in their lives. “The journey of a thousand miles, begins with a single step” ~Lao Tzu. Let today be step one.
