I grew up in New Jersey but when it was time to apply for college, I knew I wanted to have an adventure and go somewhere far away. I was accepted at UNC Chapel Hill so I went to visit in February and, much to my surprise, no one was bundled up in hats, gloves, boots, and thick winter coats. Everyone was wearing shorts and I was immediately sold! I knew right away that I loved North Carolina and that it was the place for me.
I got an undergraduate degree from the School of Public Health at Carolina in Health Education but knew that what I really wanted to do was be a therapist. So I went to the UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work and earned my Masters in Social Work degree. Shortly afterwards, I was hired by Carolinas Medical Center to be a weekend, nighttime social worker in the Emergency Department. I loved my time there (18 years) and became very skilled at working with people experiencing stress, depression, trauma, grief, relationship troubles, as well as other mental health and substance abuse issues. I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker during my time there. It is there that I met Laura (the owner of Cornerstone Counseling) who asked me to come work with her at Cornerstone. I was ready to move in a different direction in my career and go back to my true passion, which is helping adults live a meaningful, healthy, and happy life.
