I am from Raleigh, North Carolina. I graduated with a Bachelors in Psychology from Samford University and earned my Masters in Social Work (MSW) from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, with a concentration in individual and family counseling.
In addition to my work with Cornerstone Counseling, I have experience in medical settings within Carolinas Healthcare System. In my time at the hospital, I worked with chronic and terminal illness with adults, as well as in pediatric oncology. I enjoy working with adults, adolescents and the family unit as a whole and find this work very rewarding.
Within my practice, you will find a safe, nonjudgmental environment that fosters a positive exploration of those tough questions. Together we will walk through the process of identifying personal barriers and developing the tools, communication skills, goals or boundaries needed to help you live a more meaningful and fulfilled life.
I have experience working among a diverse population. I frequently engage couples experiencing relationship difficulties, including intimacy issues, as well as, individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, or a loss in their lives. Lexie is here to help you through your self discovery journey. Lexie is a full-bred, hypoallergenic toy poodle puppy who is in training to be a therapy dog. She is usually present in most sessions and takes her job very seriously as my assistant-this dedicated work usually involves a lot of sleeping and kisses if requested by clients. Due to Lexie being in active training, she is crated and out of sight during sessions. However, she is very friendly and welcomes being petted and an occasional treat.
Evidence shows that having a dog present during therapy sessions can provide the following: reduce stress, increase rapport, help clients to become more cognizant of emotional reactions and support resiliency.
**If you are not comfortable with dogs or having Lexie present during sessions, I will be more than happy to remove her from the room. Please do not hesitate to make me aware of this at anytime during our sessions.**
